Our story
The WHY behind TAGE.
It started with a simple observation.TAGE was started by 2 professionals — Komal, a lawyer and Akshay, a CA — who, like many of us, often relied on takeaways during long working days. Over time, they began noticing something they couldn’t ignore: plastic waste piling up in bins, and plastic quietly making its way into the things we eat and use every day. When they started looking for better alternatives, they discovered a frustrating reality — many products marketed as “eco-friendly” still contained plastic, while restaurants had little access to a trusted source for genuinely compostable packaging. The idea travelled further. Our US partner Jesal, a CA too, joined us after seeing the same challenge unfold across the Atlantic — proving that the need for better packaging isn’t limited by geography. So, together they decided to revolutionise the packaging industry and make compostable packaging, free of conventional plastic the default and not the exception — for businesses and everyday consumers alike.

How it started
It started with our own takeaway orders.
Three friends, three careers: two chartered accountants and a lawyer. What we had in common was a lot of takeaway, and at some point we started seeing through the packaging. Containers labelled “eco-friendly”, cups labelled “biodegradable”.
Many of them had a thin plastic lining laminated onto the paper, invisible to layman. They weren’t compostable at all. It was plastic wearing paper’s reputation.
Restaurant owners have no easy way to check this, and no time to become materials experts on top of running a kitchen. So we check it for them. Since we couldn’t find a supplier we trusted, we became one.

“We weren’t trying to start a packaging company. We were trying to stop being lied to by one.”

How we check products
Nothing goes in our catalogue until it passes four checks.
-
What is it really made of?
We check the material spec for hidden plastic linings, the most common trick in “eco-friendly” paper.
-
Is the claim backed?
A compostable claim needs a certificate from a recognised body. No certificate, no listing.
-
Does it survive a real kitchen?
Hot gravy, oil and a delivery ride. We test it before we sell it to you.
-
Would we use it ourselves?
If it leaks, bends or smells, it doesn’t make the cut. We sell, only what we would use ourself.
What we’ll never stock
- Plastic-lined paper sold as eco-friendly
- Plastic-coated paper and board
- Anything we can’t back with a certificate
