Home compostable

Wood & Bamboo. Real wood, not plastic cutlery.

Our cutlery and stirrers are cut from responsibly sourced birch wood, with bamboo used for tissues — no plastic coating, no synthetic finish, just the material itself, shaped and smoothed for the table.

What it is

From responsibly sourced timber to your table.

Birch wood and bamboo are cut, shaped and smoothed into cutlery, stirrers and tissues — no plastic coating and no synthetic finish added at any stage.

  1. Birch wood or bamboo Responsibly sourced timber, not old-growth or protected forest.
  2. Cut & shaped Milled into blanks, then shaped — no chemical treatment.
  3. Cutlery or tissue Sanded smooth, ready for a single use at the table.
  4. Facility Breaks down at an industrial composting facility after use.

Why it’s better

How wood and bamboo perform at the table.

  • No plastic coating Just the wood or bamboo itself — nothing synthetic is added at any stage.
  • Sturdy enough for real food Doesn’t flex or snap the way thin plastic cutlery does.
  • A natural grain, not a print Colour and grain vary piece to piece — the look of real timber, not a plastic imitation.
  • A direct plastic swap Drops straight into a kitchen that hands out plastic cutlery or stirrers today.

Wood & Bamboo vs. what’s sold as “eco”.

A lot of packaging is sold as green. Here is what each option is actually made of, and what happens to it after the meal.

After use

What happens after the meal.

Animation: over 180 days in compost, Wood & Bamboo breaks down (in 2–6 months (industrial)) and a plant grows from the soil. The plastic next to it is unchanged.

  1. Wipe off any leftover food. A quick wipe is enough — no need to wash it.
  2. It's industrial compostable, not home compost. [TAGE to confirm] Keep it out of a home compost heap or the general wet-waste bin — solid wood needs the higher, sustained heat of an industrial composting facility to fully break down.
  3. It breaks down at a composting facility. [TAGE to confirm] Ask TAGE or check with your municipal corporation about industrial composting collection in your area.

How long it takes to break down

Not to scale. Plastic never fully disappears; it breaks into microplastics.

Wood & Bamboo, answered.

Yes — it’s sanded smooth and made for single use, with no coating or chemical treatment. It’s meant to be used once and composted, not washed and reused, which is also what keeps it splinter-free.
